There are a variety of recipes for absinthe. Read below to learn how to mix absinthe.

Original Absinthe Recipe

The traditional absinthe recipe is simple and consists of absinthe, ice cold water and an ice cube. Here’s how to prepare it:

  • Pour three ounces of absinthe into a heavy parfait-style stemmed glass.
  • Set a perforated spoon upon the rim of the glass, then place a cube of sugar on the spoon.
  • Drip ice cold water very slowly and carefully onto the cube. After the sugar dissolves, continue pouring ice cold water until you have a ratio of absinthe to water that is about two to five parts (or depending upon your taste or endurance).
  • Mix the ice cold water, absinthe and sugar.

Absinthe Curacao Frappe

1 shot Absinthe Original
½ shot curacao
1 teaspoon lemon juice
2 teaspoons orange juice
1 thin slice of orange

In a deep saucer champagne glass with crushed ice, pour the ingredients and stir. Add orange slice.

Moulin Rouge

25ml Archers
12.5ml Absinthe Original
5ml Grenadine

Mix ingredients and top up with Merlins Energy Source. Garnish with mint tips and serve on ice.

Absinthe Minded

3oz Bombay Sapphire gin
½oz Absinthe Original
½oz Grand Marnier orange liqueur
Dry vermouth
1 orange peel

Chill 1 cocktail glass. Then pour gin and absinthe in a mixing glass with ice and stir. Roll ½ oz of dry vermouth in your cocktail glass and throw away the excess. Strain other ingredients into the cocktail glass and float ½ oz of Grand Marnier on top, then garnish with orange peel.

Green Fairy

1oz Absinthe herbal liqueur
1oz water
Juice of 1 lemon
2 teaspoons egg white
1 dash Angostura® bitters

Shake all the ingredients together thoroughly with ice. Strain into a cocktail glass.

Scottish Licorice

1oz Absinthe
1oz Drambuie Cream Liqueur
1/3oz 12-year old single malt Scotch Whisky

Fill in a brandy glass and stir. Serve well chilled.

Absinthe Suissesse

1 ½oz Deva® absinthe
2-3 drops of anisette
2-3 drops of orange flower water
1 teaspoon white crème de menthe
1 egg white

Shake with ice and strain into a cocktail glass.

Sea Frizz

1 ½oz Deva® absinthe
1 tablespoon lemon juice
1 teaspoon sugar
1 egg white
Soda water

Shake with ice. Strain into a highball glass then fill with seltzer.

Fire Fairy

1oz Amaretto
½oz Absinthe
1 can of Red Bull

Put the amaretto in a large shot glass. Float the absinthe on top. Light the absinthe and drop into 1 pint glass with the Red Bull.

Atomic Bomb

½ Absinthe Original
½ brandy

Stir and pour into a cocktail glass.

Bela Frappe

1 shot Absinthe Original
2/3 shot Volare Triple Sec
6-7 fresh raspberries
Juice of half a lime
Dash of Monin Sirop de Framboise

Muddle raspberries with the lime juice and Monin Framboise in a Boston glass, then top up with hard ice cubes. Add Absinthe and Volare and shake hard in the Boston shaker. Double strain into a rocks glass filled with crushed ice and top up with champagne. Garnish with fresh raspberries.
